Excellent work from the boys once again in Week 8 as we cashed in 3 of our 4 bets, generating yet another profitable day. That is now 7 of our last 10 and we don’t have to be mathematicians to know that means GREEN. Week 9 brings forth more intrigue than the masses are telling you. Although there are some hefty lines, we get 5 ranked vs ranked matchups as well as a pivotal Group of 5 contest. Still waiting for the day that one of us has the sack to take Ashton Jeanty over yards, but if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Trust me here: put a unit on each of these bets individually and watch your balance increase.
Zac - Cam Ward (OVER 2.5 passing TDs) -115 odds vs Florida State
Hear ye, hear ye. Cam Ward looks to continue his run for Heisman down the stretch of this season and I expect him to keep putting up points in bunches this week against Florida State. This line has hit in 6 of 7 games this year for Ward, and I expect him to be slinging the ball early and often to avoid a shootout like the ones they’ve been stuck in as of late. In the 3 games at home so far this season, Ward has 993 yards and 12 touchdowns. What isn’t there to like here? Don’t overthink it, dial this one in. If this doesn’t hit, I’ll get a tattoo that says ‘Cam Ward’. You heard me.
Anonymous Aggie - Garrett Nussmeier (OVER 1.5 passing TDs) -195 odds at Texas A&M AND Le’Veon Moss (OVER 0.5 rushing TDs) -135 odds vs LSU
Blackout in Kyle Field has all the boys at SMS on edge - legend has it the nervous dumps began last Sunday. In what is sure to be an emotional game, look for the stars to anchor their teams down. Garrett Nussmeier has a strong arm & looks to give A&M’s defense their first legitimate passing test. Although he is prone to make mistakes, Nussmeier will have his share of explosive plays. On the flip side, Le’Veon Moss is quietly on pace for over 1,100 yards and 13 touchdowns this season. The Aggies have generated a handful of talented backs as of late, and this kid is no different. The offense is tough to stop when the ground game gets going, and we fully expect #8 to punch one in. These two can be parlayed together for +170 odds.
Peyton - Navy (+14) -115 odds vs Notre Dame
America, America, God shed his grace on thee! How about the Midshipmen for starting the year off at 6-0. If it weren’t for the classic Week 16 game, there was a legitimate possibility Gameday would be in Annapolis this weekend. Nonetheless, Navy hosts Notre Dame in what is guaranteed to be a bloodbath of a contest. Although Navy has lined up in shotgun 45% of snaps this year, neither team has much of a passing threat, so this will be a “clock-ticker” of a game. Notre Dame has rebounded well from their upset loss to NIU, but the troops are ready. Blake Horvath, Navy’s QB, is a living embodiment of a stud and I expect him to make enough plays to take this one to the wire. Hooyah.
Guest Picker: Christian Rowe - Vanderbilt (+18.5) -115 odds vs Texas
If you don’t live under a rock, you’ll remember that teams struggled the week after playing Saban-led Alabama teams. The same can now be said with Kirby and Georgia. Fresh off getting whooped by the Dawgs, Texas faces the pressure to recover and make a statement. Now heading to Nashville, look for this one to stay closer than the line. Vanderbilt is 4-0 against the spread vs Power Four foes and we like this trend to continue. Can Vandy do it again and win this outright? Doubtful (and I might be a fool to say that), but if they do, this team has to go down as one of the biggest Cinderella’s in college football history. Maybe we can put a statue of Sarah Fuller in front of the stadium to honor this 2024 team!
